The cornerstone of our organization is to educate the public. We work with school boards, agencies, private and public institutions.

Who we are

Welcome To A.N.C.H.O.R

The name ANCHOR was selected to represent the new name of the Vaughan African Canadian Association. After finding out that the city of Vaughan, whose name we bear, was named after “Benjamin Vaughan”, who owned slaves in Jamaica and fought against emancipation, refusing to emancipate his slaves, we made a decision to remove the name Vaughan from our organization.

What makes us different

ANCHOR is a community organization embedded in community. We strive to maintain a grassroots organization of national significance.

Why are we here?

Our communities need a collective effort to fight against hate groups, oppression and racism. We are a progressive coalition of individuals and organizations committed to empowering Black communities

ANCHOR honours the land that we are on which has been the site of human activity since time immemorial. It is the traditional territories of the Mississauga’s of the New Credit First Nations, Anishinaabeg of the Williams Treaty First Nations, the Huron-Wendat, the Chippewas of Georgina Island and the Metis. We are grateful to have the opportunity to meet, work, and play on this territory as descendants of immigrants.
